We have a small business that’s mission is to help other small businesses be successful.
Logo design falls into that.
Though art and design are my background, both my husband areactivee in the logos.
You have to get to know your clients. Listen to what they are saying, look at their products. Size up what they are like as a person- simple, detailed, picky, frilly, etc.
All those things come into play even the colors they wear can give you a clue.
Always be prepared that they will probably turn down at least one of your ideas.
If you are planning on doing this for people, setperimeterss. whether it is x amount of hours, drafts, or whatever.
If you don’t you will at times findyourselff drug on and on by a wishywashy client who eventually demands you did nothing.
those are the cases you need to have a clear plan for handling or you may find yourself out time, money, and someone trying to make you look bad to others.
Be confident in your work and presentations.

To come up with effective logo design concepts, you can use any of the following techniques or a combination of two or more:
1) Understand the target market. More often than not, designing a logo is all about communicating to the target audience. Depending on that audience you could then narrow down your focus. Say, your target market is stay at home mums aged 30-35. A little research into this section of the market will reveal certain clues on what could be used as the icon, or the color palette etc.
2) Understand the general market pertaining to your industry. How are your competitors branding them selves? What of colors are being used predominantly?
3) Search for meanings of the company name and see if you can get any clues as to what can be represented. Unless the name of the company is a regular word, you could always try and see if the word is latin or greek and if any meaning can be researched. You can then try and think about the shapes that could represent that meaning in an abstract way.
Brainstorming for logo design ideas can be learned. By looking through online portfolios and galleries, your mind can be trained to recognize abstract ideas and shapes that could go with those ideas.
Of course at the end of the day, you would need a little creative talent to get this all working. But you can learn the process and with dedication you can ensure you come with effective ideas.
