How can I find customers for a new logo design business?

I have set up a new design business (web and logo) called Steve’s Web Design. I’m offering a heavily reduced price on my logos so I can build up my portfolio at £100 a logo! But I can’t get hardly any customers. How can I get more using the internet. I know you can spend tonnes advertising and I have put some in the free classified ads such as Craigslist but for no results. Please tell me how to get started.

As a marketing tool you can also create a portfolio of your previous design jobs. This you can use to present when you are selling your service. Your must at least have a portable and online portfolio for selling purposes.

Be always on the look out for new businesses in your surrounding. They might need to use your graphic design services to market themselves in the area. Get their addresses and send them mailers like postcards telling them about your services.

Usually new businesses need business cards, brochures, letterheads, forms and many other marketing materials.

You must also be friendly to other people in the industry and related industries. For someone who still needs exposure it also helps to provide your services free of charge on your spare time.

  2. Yes, there are a lot of free sites out there. But if what you are offering is personalized and tailored logo’s I would think there are still folks looking for them and willing to pay for them if they are what they want.

    Pricing is important, but also give an incentive. Something of value but that you can afford to give out. For example in your niche maybe offer one months support of the web site once it’s up and live.

    As far as advertising, social media is for the most part free and you can set up a business profile very easily. Just don’t mass advertise on them. Use them to find people interested in what you have to offer using the search features.

  3. Search for the firms you can make logo Designs easily. Prepare them tailor made logos and present them by explaining why did you use that colors that shape for what ? This is one way.

    The other way is everybody is doing logos through web, what is your difference? Work on that. My advice is to work on brand positioning. Add some differentiated value to the positioning of the firm.

  4. This is robbery. I know plenty of companies who will create a logo for far less, as it is very simple work. And if you were any good at it you would be able to afford to pay for your advertising the same as the rest of us, in stead of spamming your services here

  5. I would try to make it so that you are offering something slightly different to your competitors so that you stand out.

    Also, there are loads and loads of ways of promoting your business without spending any money. I am 6th on the front page of google for my key word and I have not put a penny into advertising. However, it does take a lot of time. Try to become an expert on your field. Write articles such as "The most successful logos" and why they were successful etc. Then post them on the hundreds of free article sites that there are. Do the same for the press release sites. ALways make sure you link back to your website or if you don;t have one, include contact details. Research sites such as squidoo that are going to give you high rankings.

    It takes a lot of time, effort and research to build a successful business from scratch, especially if it is your first time. As I always say, if it was easy to build a business, everybody would do it.
